Richard Kwan

Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner & Acupuncturist
R.TCMP, R.Ac.

When symptoms are persistent, complicated, or seemingly unrelated, they may be different parts of the same underlying pattern.

That is where Richard’s experience can make a meaningful difference. With over 20 years of clinical practice, he looks beyond the location of a symptom to understand how pain, stress, emotions, sleep, digestion, energy, and the nervous system may be influencing one another. This allows him to create focused, individualized treatments instead of applying the same approach to every patient.

Many people come to Richard after trying several treatments, receiving unclear explanations, or being told that everything appears normal despite continuing to feel unwell. His goal is to help you feel heard, make sense of the connections within your symptoms, and develop a clear treatment strategy based on the whole picture.

People commonly see Richard for:

  • Chronic or recurring pain that has not responded fully to other treatments
  • Stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and nervous-system dysregulation
  • Insomnia, fatigue, and difficulty recovering from prolonged stress
  • Concussion symptoms, headaches, dizziness, and sensory disturbances
  • Digestive, respiratory, allergy, and skin-related concerns
  • Complex conditions involving several seemingly unrelated symptoms
  • Preventive care and support for greater balance, resilience, and well-being

Richard combines acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, Tuina, medical Qigong, and practical lifestyle guidance. His acupuncture integrates Classical Chinese Medicine with Japanese, Five Element Alchemy, Tung and Tan-style methods, microsystems, palpation-based diagnosis, and advanced meridian-balancing techniques.

For patients, this breadth of experience means Richard is not limited to a single system or treatment style. He can select and combine the approaches most appropriate for your body, often using fewer, more precisely chosen needles to create an effective and comfortable treatment.

Richard is a graduate of the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM), co-founder of Simple Cures Integrative Medicine Clinic, and a Senior Advisor and instructor at the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine Academy (AIMA). He also teaches Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture at the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (OCTCM) and leads advanced clinical mentorships and professional training for practitioners.

With more than 25 years of Tai Chi and Qigong practice, Richard brings a calm, attentive, and grounded presence to each treatment. His goal is not only to reduce symptoms, but to help you understand your body, restore function, regulate your nervous system, and build a stronger foundation for lasting health.
